What to expect from our blog.

Here at Preston Trail Sports & Family Chiropractic it is truly our purpose to educate our community on how to be as healthy as possible!  The latin root of the word Doctor is To Teach!!  

"Doctor is a academic title that originates from the Latin word of the same spelling and meaning.[1] The word is originally an agentive noun of the Latin verb docēre [dɔˈkeːrɛ] 'to teach'."

This is something that we have fallen away from in most doctors' offices.  It's time for a CHANGE!  With as much technology and information we have at our fingertips we should be taking the steps to move forward as a community in creating a healthy culture.  

The content that we be will posting on this blog, is designed to help educate and create a proactive approach to obtain ultimate health in our community. 

Here are 5 Topics that I'm currently working on

1.) 3 easy ways to educate kids on nutrition and how to make it fun!

With McDonalds and KFC on every corner, and advertisements for unhealthy food and dangerous medication every 5 minutes on tv, it becomes very hard to stay focused on you and your family's health.  When I was younger, my mom told me that we were going to change our diet and start eating better.  As a kid that grew up on Mac and Cheese and Chicken nuggets this was very hard.  When I started getting bananas and strawberries in my lunch box instead of a Snack Pack and Oreos I was a little upset.  It wasn't until I was much older that I started to realize what I was putting into my body and how it was affecting my health.  If we can do simple things to educate our children on proper nutrition and make it fun, we can start to raise a generation that will be healthier than ours.  

2.) Your mom said Sit up Straight! Why was she right? 

Most people think posture is "Sit up Straight," "Stop Slouching," and other things your parents harped at you about - just to be annoying.  Well, mom may have had an insight into your health way beyond what you thought.  Your posture has a drastic impact of your brain health!  From childhood developmental issues to the neuro-degeneritive process your brain goes through as we get older, your posture can dictate how your brain adapts and grows.  

3.) Investing in your #1 Asset!

In order to invest in your #1 asset, we first have to understand what that asset is.  If you had a 2 million dollar house, 3 hundred thousand dollar car, and a business worth 1 billion dollars, your #1 asset would be the same as someone living on the street.  Your health is your #1 asset.  Think about it for one second, you can have everything in the world but if you were stricken with an illness that left you bedridden, how would you be able to enjoy the things you owned?  We need to take the time no matter how old you are to invest in your health!

4.) How interval training can boost your metabolism 

Michael Bracko, Ed.D., FACSM, said high-intensity interval training (HIIT) can boost metabolism and accelerate weight loss. During HIIT, a person consumes more oxygen than in slower, distance exercise, which can increase post-exercise metabolism. Research has shown one session of HIIT can burn calories for 1.5 - 24 hours after exercise.  

So how do I start interval training?  It is going to be different for every individual.  For someone that hasn't worked out in 2 years, you will have to start very slow.  We will be discussing techniques to use when starting Interval training and how not to injure yourself or do too much too fast.   

5.) 10 Shopping tips and how to read food labels!

When I go to the grocery store to shop for me and my family, I have a specific method I use to stay away from the things I do not need to put in my cart!  I mean honestly, you walk in and usually right in front of you is a display of Doritos and Dr Pepper.  Have you ever actually read the label of a Doritos bag? I mean what the heck is Disodium inosinate?  And why do I need artificial coloring in a tortilla chip?  Well, let's go over what some of this stuff is, what is good and bad, and learn some techniques for healthier shopping.
