TURN TO YOUR PLANO CHIROPRACTOR FOR A QUALIFIED ASSESSMENT OF YOUR KNEE PAIN
What causes knee pain and which options are best for you
Knee pain can make something as simple as walking around the block a slow and painful task. For some, it can lead to time off work and severely restrict normal activities.
As Plano chiropractors, Drs. Cohoon and James, can offer a medical assessment to help you decide upon the best treatment for your knee pain. They can also help you understand the medical conditions affecting your knee.
Common causes of knee pain include a sprained or torn ligament, osteoarthritis, or a meniscus or “cartilage” tear. Runners and other athletes often suffer injuries from repetitive stress or overuse. Arthritis, especially in older persons, can result in ongoing knee pain. And for some of us, carrying a few extra pounds can be a contributing factor in knee pain.
But my pain’s not that bad
Knee pain varies widely among patients. Some people may notice only mild pain or a slight twinge in the knee, while others will experience severe pain. You may be putting off seeing the doctor because you think your pain just isn’t that bad. However, if left untreated, your knee pain may progress to more a more debilitating level.
Often long-term knee pain can be dramatically improved through chiropractic care. Your Plano chiropractor can customize a health plan for you that includes nutritional assessment and supplements, along with an exercise plan. Simple range-of-motion exercises and chiropractic treatment can help strengthen the muscles around the joint and alleviate pain.
When should I see a doctor?
If you have sudden knee pain caused by an impact or fall, you should be seen by a doctor. Other indications for medical treatment include:
- Trouble sleeping
- Noticeable warmth around the joint
If you have been bothered by minor knee pain for a while, but the pain suddenly worsens enough that it interferes with your sleep or daily activities, that’s a strong indication that you should be assessed by a doctor. Your Plano chiropractor will work with you to examine your options and choose the right treatment plan for your health.
